This is about the cheapest source of complex carbs you can find... other than trying to buy a 50 to 100 lb bag from som supplier, shich gets tough to find. Maltodextrin has a high Gylcemic index so it absorbs fast but it is not immediately used as energy as it must be converted to glucose first. For this reason it supplies a steady stream of energy and not a spike in energy like sugar would cause. Endurance Athletes use maltodextrin during long events for that reason. It is also the best of the carbs for post exercise recovery as you will replenish more muscle gylcogen than if you use simple sugars. So if you are using this for the right reasons it is an excellent product. But don't expect some sugar high or energy surge.
