Phenibut is wonderful sup, but only if used correctly... Here's my cautionary tale...
1.5 grams in the morning works wonders for me as an anxiolytic, nootropic and sleep aid. I used at this dosage for nearly a year on a two or three days a week basis with no problems, no tolerance. Just recently I started getting so fond of it that I started dosing every day. Two weeks in, no sign of tolerance. However, when I decided to take a day off, I started feeling VERY tense and uncomfortable around noon. So much so, that against my better judgment I went ahead and dosed at 1 gram and within a few hours felt fine. I continued my 1.5 g morning dosage for another week and decided to use the three day weekend to try going off my every day regimen (I've never been addicted to anything in my life, and didn't want that to change)...
I experienced 4 full days of intense tension and insomnia (only able to get ~ 2hr of very poor sleep a night). Over the course of a couple of hours on the evening of the fourth day I finally started feeling normal again, but I've had to use a prescription sleep medication to get any decent sleep. I believe now that using Phenibut (a GABA mimetic) for two or more weeks straight causes the brain to dramatically down-regulate the production of endogenous GABA. Production will go back up upon cessation, but it takes a long, uncomfortable while to do so. I suppose you could go on and stay on, but that just doesn't sound like a smart thing to try.
Lesson learned... Don't use this more than two or three days a week and it will serve you well. I'm going to take at least a full week off before trying my previously succssful approach. I don't think I'll ever try to take it more than two days in a row.
