Elzi Volk has been involved professionally and competitively in the fitness
industry for seven years and has trained with competitive and non-competitive
athletes. She has six years experience in competitive bodybuilding and powerlifting
and ran an independent personal training service in Austin, Texas. She combines
science and experience to provide the highest quality sports and conditioning
training for her clients.With two degrees in the biological sciences, Elzi Volk has been active in scientific research for 17 years at Oregon State and Ohio State Universities with interests in cell and molecular biology, pathology and immunology. In addition to pursuing science and sports, she also raised sheep and horses in the foothills of Oregon.
Based on her background in cell biology, physiology, training and nutrition, Elzi writes technical articles on these topics, including manuscripts for refereed journals. She has written articles on nutrition, training, general physiology and a monthly column specifically addressing women’s issues for electronic magazines (Mesomorphosis.com, MuscleMonthly.com, ThinkMuscle.com and AllProTraining.com). She also edited a book on ketogenic diets, The Ketogenic Diet: A Complete Guide for the Dieter and Practitioner by Lyle McDonald and worked with Mauro Di Pasquale on The Metabolic Diet.
