What is OmSanA’s history?
OmSanA’s active ingredient, OSA, is a proprietarily processed Virgin
Isolate,
aqueous extract of the Gymnema sylvestre leaf, an ancient Ayurvedic plant, which
is a woody climbing plant, and grows naturally in the Indian sub-continent.
Gymnema sylvestre leaf and extracts have, reportedly, been used in Indian ‘folk
medicine’, since 6000 B.C.1 Several Tribes, including the Santals, in
east-central India, have used Gymnema sylvestre leaves for centuries in their
diet and as a folk remedy. The Gymnema sylvestre leaves are used in herbal
preparations, which, when chewed, interfere with the ability to taste sweetness.
The ingredient name, OSA, denotes Om Santal Adivasi, as a tribute to the Santal Tribe. The name OSA was originally chosen by Santal Solution’s
founder, in 1988, to describe the new technology of recreating the Santal
Tribe’s Ayurvedic methods to retain the labile compounds of the Active
Principles. This was achieved by the Ayurvedic extraction of the fresh, and cool
air-dried Gymnema sylvestre leaves, under specific conditions. Today, endocrine
research and several clinical studies in general, and our own In Vitro and In
Vivo research on OmSanA continue to further validate the unique nature
of OmSanA’s active ingredient, OSA.
Can OmSanA be taken along with prescription medications?
It is extremely important to work with a physician before supplementing with
OmSanA. Taking OmSanA may require dosage adjustments of existing
therapies. Caution should be exercised when taking OmSanA along with
prescription medications (including oral hypoglycemics or insulin). Please note
that the combination of OmSanA and prescription medications could
adversely affect blood-sugar levels.
Are there any side effects to taking OmSanA
To date, no side effects have been reported at normal dosages (500mg -
750mg/day), but researchers have not established whether this herb is absolutely
safe for pregnant women or during lactation. (In clinical trials a dosage of
1500mg/day resulted in occasional irregularities in menstrual cycle and slight
green coloration of the stool.)
How long do I have to take OmSanA before I see any results?
Individual results will vary, however clinical trials have shown results as
early as 30 days.
Is OmSanA a standardized herbal extract?
Yes, standardization of herbal extracts assures product consistency,
OmSanA’s proprietary extraction process supports a high level of
consistency as well as preserves the labile compounds of the Active Principles.
