SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine) is an enzymatic reaction of methionine, a sulfur-containing amino acid and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the body's main energy molecule. SAMe occurs naturally in humans and is involved in over forty biochemical reaction in the body. Unfortunately SAMe levels decline with age. Therefore, supplementing with additional SAMe may protect the body from immune deficiencies. In addition, deficiencies in methionine, folate, and vitamin B-12 can lead to a reduction in SAMe levels.
